Over a week ago, it was reported that more than 20 dogs were poisoned within a week in Ipoh.

Since last Thursday (December 24), nine wild dogs have been found dead due to poisoning near a factory in Puncak Jelapang, Ipoh.

According to Sinar Harian, a 40-year-old woman living near the area found two dog carcasses in front of her house around 10pm.

Ipoh District Deputy Chief of Police, Superintendent Mohamad Nordian Abdullah said the next day, the woman also found 7 more dog carcasses in a nearby factory area.

Before the incident happened, the woman saw five unidentified men on the street near her house roaming around.

Following the incident, the woman lodged a police report for safety reasons.

Mohamad Nordin said that the initial investigation into the case did not rule out the possibility that all the animals involved died due to poisoning.

“The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code for treason by killing or maiming an animal,” he said.

The matter has caught the attention of the Malaysian Animal Organization (SAFM).

In a statement posted on SAFM Facebook, they asked the public who have any information about the incident to come forward and help.

They also said that poisoning the animals would not solve the neighbourhood problem but would be illegal and considered a crime.

SAFM said they would strive to uphold justice for the poisoned dogs and they condemn the heinous acts committed by this group of irresponsible individuals.
