The Malaysian television and film industry is no stranger to controversy. From accusations of racism to criticism over apparent inaccuracies, sometimes these movie makers can’t seem to catch a break.
Now, another local movie is receiving flak from netizens online.
GSC recently took to their official social media pages to share the movie poster to the upcoming Malaysian movie, Pulau (Island), and people can’t help but notice similarities in the poster to another island-themed movie.
The poster to the movie basically showcases an island with a skull formation and a ghost under the water. If this looks familiar to you, that means you’ve watched the American horror movie, Fantasy Island.
Fantasy Island’s poster features an island shaped like a skull, with half of the skull underwater, rather similar to how Pulau’s poster has a ghost’s head underwater.
Many have since taken to the comment section to call out what seems to be a blatant recreation of Fantasy Island’s poster.
“So similar to the Fantasy Island poster.”
“The poster also copy Fantasy Island, try to be a bit more creative la.”
“Like Fantasy Island’s poster only.”
Putting the poster aside, the local movie’s plot doesn’t seem to bare any similarities to Fantasy Island. You can check out the trailer to Pulau here:
