Since the implementation of the MCO, Malaysia’s streets have grown considerably quieter with less people leaving their homes to keep the virus at bay. Unfortunately, some individuals view this silence as an opportunity to take advantage of the situation for their own selfish gain.
In a CCTV clip shared to Sin Chew Daily on Sunday (30th March), a man on a motorcycle was caught on camera climbing over the wall of a house in Rawang to steal an entire gas tank in broad daylight!
The thief reportedly rode his motorcycle to the back lane of a neighbourhood in Rawang Garden, jumped over the wall and quickly grabbed a yellow gas tank. However, when he was making his hasty escape, the gas cylinder fell and broke through the house owner’s drain cover. The man could then be seen going back to the ditch to retrieve the cylinder before speeding away from the scene.
In the series of pictures shared by a netizen to the news portal, many were alarmed at how calm the man appeared amidst executing his robbery. Some even pointed out how it was strange that the commotion from the gas cylinder falling didn’t worry him for fear of being caught. He merely lifted up the tank and rode away.
While a few netizens speculate that this is the work of an experienced thief, others attribute this daylight robbery to the fact that thieves are getting more daring with their criminal offences since less people pose a threat to them now given that everyone is stuck at home.
That’s definitely a cause for concern. Hopefully, authorities will do something to tackle this worrying trend immediately.
