Some people don’t have the luxury of receiving gifts on their birthdays, but an uncle had something to say about a precious gift during a birthday dinner.

In an anonymous dilemma shared on the XUAN Play’s Facebook page, a woman expressed her dissatisfaction about attending her aunty’s 80-year-old birthday, where she felt unappreciated and insulted. After greeting everyone, her family approached the birthday woman to pass her the gift.

Her uncle, however, was not a fan of the present they brought.

“It’s not really a good brand. Anyone out there could’ve gotten and eaten this at any time,” the uncle casually said.

It was a pack of bird’s nests worth RM500.

The woman was angry to hear what her uncle had to say and was heartbroken to see the changes in her parents’ facial expressions.

“My dad purposedly chose the expensive ones, and that was what he got.”

The woman also revealed that the relatives are all rich and involved in different businesses. The hurtful words, unfortunately, did not end there. Other relatives also had A LOT to say about the family.

The woman’s younger brother works as a technician who fixes air conditioners and is often exposed to the sun.

“Why is your skin so tanned and dark now? You look no different than the foreigners,” said another relative, which prompted the others to laugh, except the woman and her family members.

On the way home, her younger brother vented his anger about the situation, saying that they shouldn’t have attended the birthday dinner. The parents, however, were not happy about how much the woman and her younger brother loathed going to the dinner.

“We’re all family. We have to tolerate each other and you have to change your mindset,” the parents said.

In this case, do you agree with the parents’ take about maintaining harmony and unity in the family? Or would you have flipped the table for the inappropriate remarks?
