Trigger warning: This article mentions suicide and may be disturbing to some readers. Reader discretion is advised.

It’s heartbreaking to see how women are still being objectified and sexualised to satisfy some men’s imagination. An anonymous woman recently expressed her suicidal thoughts on social media when she found out her husband is part of a WhatsApp group that’s filled with men “joking” around with pictures of sexy women.

The images, as expected, were taken and shared explicitly in the group without the women’s consent. The woman acknowledged that her husband is a good man but slowly changed her mind after he became part of an unofficial WhatsApp group for men at his workplace. She made it clear that she’s not a fan of the group.

“If they see a woman in a mini skirt at lunch, they’ll take a photo discreetly and share in the group with inappropriate captions”, the wife explained.

She added that ever since her husband followed suit, she became disgusted with him, and couldn’t even enjoy a simple conversation with him.

“I feel disgusted by his behaviour. Why do men like to do this?”

At the end of the confession tweet, she hinted about her suicidal thought, prompting many netizens to express their concerns over the anonymous woman.

“If you hear a news about someone falling from the 30th floor, that’s me.”

“Be a man and leave that group, NOW”

Many netizens, including men, expressed their anger towards the woman’s husband for doing so, and some have urged her to have a conversation with him before things take a turn for the worse.

“Screenshot the chats, threaten your husband, and say you’ll hand it to the police if he doesn’t leave. After he has left, still, send to the police. It’s a crime and these criminals can’t go free!”

“Please talk to your husband, heart-to-heart. Ask him to leave the group. He is influenced by the rest. Don’t keep this to yourself, you know your husband more than anyone else.”

“Threaten him and say that you’ll tell his mom if she’s still alive. Let him see the pain in his mom’s face. If he loves his mom, he’ll be sensitive about it.”

“My colleagues criticise me for being arrogant because I’m not part of their group chat. I told them, what else is there to talk about? Are we not inappropriate enough out there?”

Another netizen said that if it’s a common issue for her man, the woman should remind him about the possibility to see the images of his relatives being shared in the group.

“Ask him to be a man, and leave the group. Is he worrying about being a castaway if he’s not part of that group? Does he care about you or his guy friends?”

Under any circumstances, women should be respected and like any other person out there, they deserve to feel safe. It’s not only immoral to have obscene pictures of women in your possession, but it could potentially turn into a crime if the habit is not eliminated.
