The man has been confirmed as an on-duty police officer

In the video, the teenagers’ motorcycle appeared to have no registration number. According to Sinar Harian, the bike was also believed to be modified and produced a loud exhaust noise.

The clip also showed the students fleeing the scene after the man’s attempt to grab the key failed.

Police have since confirmed that the man seen trying to remove the key was indeed a police officer who was on duty at the time.

“The public is urged not to speculate”

Mersing Deputy District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Hasrudi Mohd Zain, stated that the incident occurred at a traffic light near Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Endau in Mersing.

“The police officer involved was attempting to inspect the motorcycle ridden by two males, believed to be school students, as the motorcycle did not have a registration number and was believed to have been modified,” he explained.

The case is being investigated under Section 58(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 24(1)(b) of the Police Act 1967. Police have also advised the public not to speculate about the incident.
