Two underage girls were detained in Kuala Lumpur for illegal street racing yesterday (20 March) using motorcycles with illegally modified exhaust and brakes.

The two girls, both aged 12, were among 38 individuals detained during an enforcement operation by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) at Jalan Ampang and Jalan Sultan Ismail.

Harian Metro quoted JPJ Director General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli as saying that the parents of both girls have been summoned to assist with the investigation.

Furthermore, JPJ is also mulling taking legal action against the parents for allowing their children to ride motorcycles.

The JPJ Director General asserted,

“Both underage girls were found to have joined the illegal racing activities by riding motorcycles that had been illegally modified, including at the exhaust and brake system.

“This is really worrying as not only are they underaged, but the motorcycles they rode on were also illegally modified.”

Throughout the operation, JPJ issued 196 summonses for various offences and seized 19 motorcycles for illegal modification to their structure, engines and exhaust.
