If you’re not working in a corporate environment where it’s mostly suits and neckties 24/7, chances are the management may allow you to dress in smart casual attire.

However, it’s not uncommon to see some employees coming in even more casual attire, such as sports outfits and for the ladies, a t-shirt and yoga pants. A man in Hong Kong recently spoke about work attire in a discussion thread, where he highlighted a female colleague who started to wear yoga pants to work and asked if it’s considered too much for a woman to wear yoga pants to work.

“The men now bat an eye”

The anonymous man said that his workplace is pretty lenient when it comes to attire, as long as it’s not too revealing. However, since the said female colleague started to wear yoga pants to work, he couldn’t help but notice the attention that her attire had gained.

“Everyone, including the men are looking at her. I’m not sure if yoga pants is actually allowed at work.”

He explained that his colleague had never worn yoga pants to work previously. However, she has just joined a yoga class recently which she goes to after work. So, wearing yoga pants to work brings a lot of convenience and she doesn’t need to change before attending her yoga class.

Everyone else might not have anything to say about the “emergence” of yoga pants in the office but the man isn’t too sure about the boss.

“The boss spoke to her for a long time in his room today. I’m not sure if he was asking her to come in a different attire.”

Would you ask your boss about the conversation when it’s supposed to be private and confidential? Since the man had no idea about the content of the conversation, netizens came up with their respective wild guesses about what the boss might have said to her.

“He told her to make sure that the attire comes in full set – yoga pants in the lower half, and something that goes well with it on the upper half.”

“If she wears a T-shirt, that should be fine but if she’s wearing a sports bra on top, I don’t think that’s acceptable.”

“The boss said only he can see her in that outfit.”

If your workplace has leniency in dress codes, it’s probably fine but ladies, do you find it acceptable to wear yoga pants to work?
