It’s happening again, Malaysians. We’re destroying public property and trashing facilities again. Vandalism is a serious epidemic that is unfortunately still widespread here as evidenced by various cases in the past.

Remember when we vandalised the newly-opened MRT stations, trashed some oBikes, and even messed up IKEA Tebrau? Sigh.

Now, the latest victim to join the list is the newly reopened National Science Centre located in Bukit Kiara. Previously, the centre had been closed for a year for upgrading and refurbishment purposes and finally, they’ve opened their doors again on October 11. In conjunction with their grand reopening, they are currently providing free entry until December 31 and many people are taking this opportunity to visit the place.

Unfortunately, based on their Facebook page, it looks like the public has not been exactly civic-minded as they posted several photos of various exhibits getting destroyed and broken, litter everywhere and even broken walls. Frustrated by this barbaric vandalism, they uploaded photos of the “crime scenes” and urged the public to be more civilised. Come on guys, we can do better than this!

They wrote, “Every facility belongs to each and every one of us. Please use it wisely and help us to bring the best to you. Stop vandalism.”

The National Science Centre wrote several posts and some of them included photos of dirty and used baby diapers being dumped just like that on the floor. Other pictures showed holes on the walls as well as food packaging and water bottles being littered everywhere. What is going on?!

That’s not all; their latest post on December 14 depicted a group of kids playing in one of the water features, treating it like a theme park. Where are their parents?

Many netizens who saw these posts were equally frustrated at the behaviour of those irresponsible people and condemned their actions. However, they praised the National Science Centre for providing such quality facilities and hoped that more Malaysians would learn to appreciate it.

This is why we can’t have nice things. We need to stop this vandalism culture, Malaysians! We don’t need third world mentality here!
