When the world is still worried about getting out of their homes amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, uniformed units like our Malaysia Battalion or MALBATT 850-8 under the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR), it is business as usual as they head off to Lebanon to carry out peacekeeping duties.

Still tasked to perform essential duties thousands of kilometres away from home, a proper sending off is always needed if you are assigned to stay away from your family months on end, in this particular case for a whole year.

With restrictions under RMCO still in place, the usual sending off ceremony is however replaced with video calls from army personnel to their loved ones.

Shared by netizen @Marchfoward, here are images of our battle-hardened warriors saying their goodbyes to their families.

“A total of 80 officers, 770 army personnel including those from the Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei are tasked to replace the 850-7 that recently completed their tour.”

“Amongst the tasks that will be carried out will include peacekeeping duties during armed conflict, providing humanitarian aid, security detail for the safety of elections and other tasks as requested by the UN.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all our warriors that are on duty, domestic and abroad. We thank you for safeguarding Malaysia throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
