Yesterday (28 June 2018), Malaysiakini reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commision (MACC) has frozen Umno’s headquarters’ and its Selangor branch’s bank accounts.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the action to freeze the bank accounts could be related to the ongoing probe against former Umno president, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He also noted that MACC could possibly freeze Johor Umno’s bank accounts too and Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin might order the Registrar of Society to deregister Umno soon.
Recently, DAP federal lawmaker Lim Lip Eng questioned if the MACC is also suspending the bank accounts of four other BN parties – MIC, MCA, Sabah’s Liberal Democratic Party and the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party – as they were also believed to have received money from Najib’s private AmBank accounts, according to The Malay Mail.
FYI, millions of ringgit from 1MDB were allegedly kept in these AmBank accounts.
Lim’s statement reads,
“Last week, it was reported that investigators are looking into money flowing from companies tied to 1MDB and fund transfers from former prime minister Najib Razak’s private accounts to key Barisan Nasional partners and politicians.”
“Have their accounts also been frozen pending investigation?”
In that statement, Lim also acknowledged Zahid Hamidi’s announcement of the frozen bank accounts but criticised him for not stating the real reason for freezing Umno’s bank accounts.
He then revealed that Umno and its Selangor office’s bank accounts were frozen because they have received “RM100 million and RM25 million respectively from an AmBank account number 2112022009694 belonging to Najib Razak, where the money is believed to have its origins from 1MDB”.
Uh, that’s a lot of money!
Therefore, he urged all the parties mentioned above to “be honest” and volunteer to help out with the MACC investigations. He advises them not to claim ignorance over the cash transfers like their former leader.
It looks like sooner or later, we will definitely identify the culprits behind all the corruption and prosecute them according to the law.
