Recently, local artistes and musicians called for the Selangor government to exempt the entertainment tax imposed on the industry, where the Selangor government takes 15% of ticket sales from local artists and 25% of ticket sales from international artists that perform in the state.
Now, it appears that the Selangor state government has heard their calls of concern.
Based on a report by Bernama, the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, has announced that the entertainment tax will be exempted for local acts for 2022.
The 1 year entertainment tax exemption on the entrances fees (ticket sales) for local live performances and for buskers will be effective from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022.
“However, the exemption will not apply to foreign artistes,” he said.
We genuinely hope that the move to exempt the tax will help our local musicians and artistes with their post-pandemic recovery!
