It was recently announced that South Korean fried chicken chain, KyoChon 1991 has finally been halal certified.
The chain is known for its consistently crisp, tender, and succulent Korean-styled fried chicken and launched their initial flagship outlet in 1 Utama shopping centre back in 2014.
KyoChon 1991 has always served only pork-free dishes and prepared using the highest quality Halal ingredients sourced directly from Korea, since their introduction in the local market.
However, with the certification, Muslim diners may now feast with absolute peace of mind following Kyochon 1991’s officially becoming the very first Korean fried chicken brand to receive a Halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
During a press conference held on May 11, at KyoChon 1991’s outlet in The Gardens shopping centre, the company announced that 15 out of their 35 restaurants nationwide will now carry the Halal certification.
This includes 10 Selangor restaurants, 2 Johor restaurants, 2 Penang restaurants, and 1 Negeri Sembilan restaurant.
“Halal certification holds immense significance in Malaysia. All of our restaurants have already undergone the auditing process by JAKIM and KyoChon 1991 Malaysia will be announcing more halal-certified restaurants very soon,” CEO Terry Goh says.
“JAKIM halal certification has always been an important goal for KyoChon 1991. We’re extremely fortunate that our franchisor supported us and invested in a multi-million dollar automated factory to produce the KyoChon 1991 sauces and seasonings.”
He says this means all of KyoChon 1991’s customers in Malaysia can expect the same taste and quality of ingredients as if they were dining in KyoChon 1991 in Korea, as all sauces and marinades come from the same halal factory.
To celebrate the news, KyoChon 1991 is providing a 15% discount on all dine-in, takeaway, and web orders from May 12 – June 13 with no minimum spend is required.
