We have been warned by many to always be careful with our internet activities, especially when chatting with strangers. This 17-year-old teenager living in Pejompongan, Tanah Abang, in Central Jakarta learnt her lesson the hard way when she made a new friend on Facebook recently.
According to The Star, Amelia Deva Puspita met 22-year-old Hendra Kurniawan on Facebook and decided to meet him after that. She had asked permission from her mother to go out on Tuesday afternoon but when night fell, she still wasn’t home.
Worried, Amelia’s 51-year-old mother, Suharmi tried to contact Amelia but she was not contactable via phone. Luckily, one of Amelia’s friends, Lia, informed Suharmi that she had received a message from Amelia asking for help on Thursday.
Suharmi wasted no time and quickly lodged a police report with the Jakarta Police. The police said, “In the message, Amelia was asking for help because a man she had just met had locked her up.”
Following the report, the police quickly moved into action and located Amelia who was held captive in Kemanggisan, West Jakarta in a rented house two days later. The police also managed to capture Hendra and arrested him on the spot.
Apparently, the pair had only chatted with each other on Facebook prior to the incident before agreeing to meet up. Things went downhill after Hendra arrived to pick Amelia up at her house and he even forced her to give him money but she refused, resulting in him keeping her a prisoner.
Always be careful when you make new friends, especially on the internet!
