The battle against Covid-19 has definitely not been easy, especially on our frontliners who’ve been working tirelessly around the clock to treat Covid-19 patients. It goes without saying that this definitely has taken a toll on their physical and mental health.
In his live press conference yesterday (28 October), Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) staff have been facing extreme fatigue, mental and physical stress, Astro Awani reported.
He added that this comes from working for the past ten months without any breaks and every layer of the MOH has been working their hardest.
“This includes the Health DG myself also. Sometimes I can’t even sleep at night, as we’re all thinking about multiple activities that can be done to battle the pandemic.”
However, he reassured that they still have the situation under control. In a video conferencing with health experts from Sabah, he was glad to find them still high-spirited.
“There just needs to be a working system where the frontliners take turns doing their duties to ensure everyone is well-rested. Unfortunately, what’s sad here is that even on their “breaks”, they can’t even rest properly,” he said.
This goes for MOH staff and the frontliners in the field who are at war with the virus.
We truly can’t imagine what our frontliners must be going through especially at a time when we’re facing a third wave. Let this be a lesson for the rest of us to never stop appreciating our frontliners for their sacrifice.
