A tragic accident happened on January 27 at approximately 1:30PM when a man riding his motorcycle home from work on his usual route was involved in a fatal crash that took his life.

According to a statement from the victim’s family, the accident occurred after Ong Guan Lin (known as Tony) departed from the traffic light intersection on Persiaran Klang and the E11 highway.

“A fatal accident that took an honourable man”

The tragedy happened just 20 to 30 metres after Ong Guan Lin left the intersection when a car suddenly crashed into him from behind.

“It was his right of way, he moved forward just 20 to 30 metres ahead, a vehicle slammed into him from behind, throwing him from his motorbike,” the statement read.

He was rushed to the ICU at Shah Alam Hospital, where he fought for his life but was later pronounced dead.

“We are not here to hinder, obstruct, or interfere with any ongoing investigation by the authorities. We are simply a grieving family searching for the truth about what happened to our beloved father.”

“He dedicated his life to others”

The statement also shared that Ong Guan Lin was the oldest son of “Grandpa Ong Kim Hwa,” also known as “Uncle Marathon,” who was well-known for his endurance and love for sports.

“Ong Guan Lin was the eldest son of ‘Grandpa Ong Kim Hwa,’ better known as ‘Uncle Marathon’ of Malaysia, an extraordinary man in his 90s. Like his father, Ong Guan Lin lived with perseverance and purpose. He believed that one person could make a difference. And he did.”

A pillar of the community, Ong Guan Lin led charity drives for meaningful causes and even volunteered for night patrols to help keep families safe.

“He never turned away when someone needed help. He dedicated his life to others. And now, we’re asking for the same kindness he showed the world.”

They’re offering a reward for any information on the incident

The Ong family is asking the public to come forward with any information that could help them understand more about the accident.

“We appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the accident. Your identity will be kept strictly confidential. To encourage assistance, we’re offering a RM2,000 reward as a token of appreciation for any proven footage or valid witness testimony that helps uncover the truth.

They’re also urging the authorities to provide any available traffic light sequencing data or surveillance footage from that junction.

“We’re not here to place blame or disrupt any investigation. We just want the truth. Because a man like Ong Guan Lin, a man who lived to serve others, deserves justice. He deserves to be remembered, not as a victim, but as the hero he was.”
