As if the Basikal Lajak incident that claimed the lives of multiple teenagers was not enough of a lesson, some people are still happily performing dangerous stunts on motorcycles. That does not only endanger themselves but also jeopardises the safety of other road users.
Many Malaysians have dubbed the dangerous stunts on motorcycles the “Superman” stunt, where riders often lie face down on their motorcycles and duplicate the flying act.
Well, guess what Supermen? If you’re still performing the stunts, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is looking for you, and they have a “gift”.
Jail time and a fine
If found guilty, riders who perform dangerous stunts on the road will be slapped with a fine of not more than RM15,000. Not only that but jail time of not more than 5 years is also possible. It is an offense under Section 42(1) Road Transportation Act 1987, which is driving dangerously and recklessly.
If you think jail time and a hefty fine are the only consequences, PDRM reveals that those who are found guilty of this offense will have their driving license revoked for 5 years, starting from the date of conviction.
In a Facebook post yesterday (October 30), PDRM voiced the dangers of performing Superman stunts on the road and reminded people, especially Malaysian youth who tend to find satisfaction through these dangerous acts.
We get that young blood are often excited to try something new and challenge themselves to the peak, but endangering your life does not make you any cooler, and it will only lead to more unwanted consequences. If jail time and fine do not mean anything to you, hopefully, the Basikal Lajak chronicles and how it has taken an emotional toll on the family will remind you of what’s worthy, and not.
