An elderly man died after a homemade gun exploded, hitting his little finger and chest, while he was out hunting with 6 friends in the Tebu Hitam forest area in Rompin, Pahang.
According to a report by Sinar Harian, the Pahang Police Chief, Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, shared that the incident took place last Sunday (May 4). A police report was made by a 54-year-old man as the complainant.

“The results of the autopsy conducted at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) on Monday (May 5) found that the victim’s cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest and the case was classified as a sudden death (SDR),” he explained.

The police detained 6 men, aged between 35 and 67, on suspicion of being involved in illegal hunting activities. They also seized 5 homemade shotgun barrels and 1 Benelli Armi-Urbino shotgun barrel, along with 25 rounds of pellet bullets.

“This case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960, which provides for a prison sentence of not more than 7 years or a fine of not more than RM10,000. Further investigations are still ongoing,” he added.
Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman stressed that the Pahang Police Contingent will not compromise with any individuals who possess homemade firearms or weapons without a valid license.
“Any individuals who own homemade firearms or weapons without a valid license are ordered to immediately hand them over to the police before strict action is taken.”
