The winding roads of Genting Highlands are familiar to us especially if we live in the Klang Valley as it usually takes a little over an hour’s drive to reach that chilly peak we’re so fond of. However, the recent case of a South Korean woman being murdered in one of the hotel rooms has been sending different kind of chills down our spines while yet another tragedy has struck at the same peak.
According to The Sun Daily, a Perodua Axia crashed through the metal barriers of a parking bay in one of the hotels in Genting Highlands and the resulting accident killed both the driver and his passenger on the spot. The victims are identified as 50-year-old V. Palanisamy from Sungei Pelek, Sepang while the passenger was a 43-year-old Chinese tourist known as Ming Sanmao.
The duo was heading out of the car park at around 4.15am and making a right turn to go down a ramp when Palanisamy lost control of the vehicle, which then rammed through the safety metal barrier before plunging 13 metres down to their deaths.
Bentong police chief Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohamad Nor said that the compact car fell and landed right on its roof at a small recreational park located next to the hotel. He said the deceased sustained heavy injuries to the head and died instantly. That is so sad!
Help arrived within minutes of the crash and they were found unconscious, but by then, it was already too late to save them. The victims were sent to a clinic at one of the hotels and were pronounced dead. Currently, the area has been cordoned off as police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Supt Mohamad Mansor said initial investigations suggest that it could be due to negligent driving but they will continue to probe further as they wait for the driver’s blood test results.
The hotel staff has erected a sturdy and conspicuous barrier inside the parking lot near the accident scene to prevent further tragedies from happening.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the two victims.
