The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has arrested an auxiliary police officer who is believed to have accidentally shot his pump gun at a Maybank in Jasin, Melaka.
According to a report by Malaysia Gazette, the shooting caused 2 customers and a bank employee to sustain injuries.
“The district control center (DCC) was informed that an auxiliary police officer assisting the prominent conglomerate company had missed a shot inside the bank in Jasin.”
“At the time of the incident, there was a man who is a 25-year-old security guard, and 2 women aged 46 and 28 respectively. All of them each suffered small wounds on the ear, thigh and calf of the left leg as a result of being hit by tile fragments that were thrown as a result of the shooting,” shared Jasin District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Jamil Radzi.
Maybank has since taken to their Facebook page to release a statement in regards to the issue
They shared that 3 customers were injured, not 2.
They wrote, “Dear valued customers, we are aware of the unfortunate incident that took place at our Jasin branch where an auxiliary police’s pump gun accidentally went off. 3 customers and another guard sustained light injuries from the debris and have received medical attention.”
“The safety of customers and staff are of our utmost priority. Branch banking facilities were suspended shortly (except SSTs and ATM) and will resume tomorrow (September 6). In the meantime, we will take every precaution with Standard Operating Procedures to ensure that this does not occur again in the future.”
