Typically, an employee has the right to 14 days of annual leave in a year or 21 days in some companies. On the days when we are on leave, some may fill up the days with unfinished business at home, while others take the opportunity to let off some steam by going on vacations.

Now, how will you utilise your holidays if you’re granted 365 days of paid annual leave? A LOT can be done if you ever have the chance to be on paid leave for 1 year. In Shenzhen, China recently, an employee may need to plan what to do to kill his boredom after he won a total of 365 days of annual leave during the company’s annual banquet.

According to a staff of the administration department of the company, the company has skipped the annual banquet for 3 years for multiple reasons. They recently brought back the annual event to allow the employees to release their stress, and purposedly included a lucky draw segment just for that.

The staff also said that following the discussion with management, they decided to keep a surprise in store for the employees by having a “huge & hidden” reward for the lucky employees, which was a year’s worth of paid leave. Other rewards were much smaller. Winning the prize was not only a surprise for the employee himself but also a major shock for the boss.

“The boss has never imagined anyone winning the prize,” the staff said.

Is he really going on paid leave for a year?

Since the reward has been approved by management, the staff said that the boss will discuss with the man about his leave soon.

“They’ll discuss and decide if he’ll really be on paid leave for 1 year, or allow leave encashment for some of the days.”

The video of the lucky employee receiving his huge prize went viral on the Chinese social media application, Douyin recently, and you can watch the clip below.

As for employers in Malaysia, are you up for a challenge to reward such a huge prize to your employees? What will you do if you’re lucky enough to go on paid leave for a year?
