Over the years, Apple has developed so much that many different versions of iPhones (with better features) have been released. If you’re still loyal to the 1st generation of iPhone which was launched all the way back in June 2007, you’re simply a legend!

We know it’s highly unlikely, but in case you still have the 1st gen of iPhone sealed in a package, you’ll be shocked to find out how much it’s worth. An auction was held by the LCG Auctions in the United States of America, where an iPhone from the 1st gen, still in the package and have never been used before, was sold.

The keywords – still in the package, meaning it has never been unboxed and it is still in pristine condition. Guess how much it’s worth?

According to a report by Business Insider, the 1st gen iPhone, which has only a capacity of 4GB was sold for USD190,372.78. If we convert it to our currency, that’s approximately a whopping RM862,000!

With that price, you could’ve purchased a house in Klang Valley. The auctioned price is 37 times greater than the initial price when it was released 16 years back – USD599, which was approximately RM2,717. Remember the hype and the queue back then when the late Steve Jobs released the very 1st iPhone worldwide?

When the 1st iPhone was launched, it came with 2 options – 4GB or 8GB. In case you have forgotten about the features, let’s take a trip down memory lane to recall what you got on a 1st gen iPhone.

  • a 3.5-inch touchscreen,
  • a 2-megapixel camera,
  • a web browser

If you’re tech-savvy, you’ll know that a device with 4GB won’t have much space to contain your data, images, videos and applications. Many people opted for 8GB back then and soon, iPhones with 4GB of capacity was pulled back from the market, making it an even “rarer species” among all iPhones.

The original iPhone sold at auction Sunday night (16 July) belonged to a member of the original engineering team at Apple when the iPhone first launched.

Assuming if you’re a millionaire, do you see yourself spending on a rare iPhone? Keep in mind that you’ll be among the few people in the world to still have the 1st gen iPhone!
