Back in the day, our parents would often yell at us for playing on the computer too much. Of course, back then, their mindset was that playing games was a waste of time and we could never go anywhere with it.

Today however, not only are professional gamers earning millions, even non-gamers in the eSports scene are making big bucks!

In fact, the industry has progressed to a point where formal education is available for anyone interested in eSports.

Well, a brand-new institution has been built by Iskandar Malaysia called the Academy of eSports (AOES)!

So far, there are two courses available: The Professional eSports (DOTA2) Athlete Programme and The eSports (DOTA2) Events Management Programme, the Level reported.

To take this course, students need to be 18 years old and above.

Intakes are scheduled every January, April, July and October, and the courses last for 8 months. For Malaysians, the cost of this course is RM8,500 while non-Malaysians would have to pay RM11,250.

For those who aspire to be professional eSports athletes, streamers, coaches, managers and/or analysts, you should consider joining the athlete programme.

Meanwhile, for those who are more interested the events side of things, then you should join the events management programme.

Over here, students will be taught skills on venue setup, event facilities and technical preparation coordination and event execution. Besides that, there will also be classes on managing supply chains and logistics. In addition, students will be taught about customer relation and be given other practical challenges in this industry and field.

Best of all, the gaming gears are all provided by the academy. So, if you’re worried about not having proper gaming gears, you can throw those worries aside.

If you have your own and would prefer using them, that’s fine too as you can always bring them along.
