The Nasi Lemak Burger is all everyone has been raving about for the past month thanks to its debut launch in McDonald’s chain in Singapore. As a true Malaysian born and bred, I’ve been wondering why it wasn’t launched in Malaysia instead. Like come on!

Although slightly disappointed, Malaysians have proved how we can do it 10x better than the largest fast food chain store in the world. Here’s a list of dedicated Malaysian restaurants that created their very own Nasi Lemak Burger:

1. MYBurgerLab

myBurgerLab was the first to take on the challenge against McD and guess what? It is delicious! People have been talking about this Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang Burger for the longest time. It is packed with a juicy fried chicken, topped with rendang sauce, peanut butter, pickled Japanese cucumber, sambal, bonito flakes and runny egg yolk. *YUM* Better catch it while they’re still serving it piping hot!

Check where you can get em at their 4 outlets here.

Operating hours: 5.00pm – 10.15pm (Mon–Fri), 11.00am – 10.15pm (Sat–Sun), closed on 1st Monday of the month

2. Bowery Petit

This city of lights-inspired restaurant and cafe decided to hop on the bandwagon to create their very own version of the Nasi Lemak Burger that goes by the name NLB. Their NLB uses chicken thigh coated with a coconut milk-infused batter to replace the actual rice from the traditional dish. Aside from that, it is accompanied by spicy-sweet sambal, fried egg, ikan bilis and kacang goreng, all served in between a homemade butter brioche bun.

Address: 48, Persiaran Zaaba, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, 60000 Kuala Lumpur.

Operating hours: 8am-11pm daily

3. Define:Food

Define Food also did its part in honouring the iconic traditional dish by serving it with kacang and ikan bilis on the side, atop a piece of banana leaf to really bring out the humble nasi lemak bungkus. The burger itself is packed with ayam goreng berempah, spicy sambal sauce, cucumber slices and a sunny side up!

Address: 29-1,Level 1, Signature Offices, The Boulevard, Mid Valley City, KL

Operating hours: 11am-11.30pm daily

4. Sanoook Thai-Japanese Restaurant

This Japanese-Thai restaurant did their own twist with its Nasi Lemak Sushi Burger. Sanoook’s version excludes the bun from the burger but tops it off with a seaweed-wrapped sticky pandan rice, layered with a juicy chicken thigh, fried egg, sambal, ikan bilis and peanuts. What I wouldn’t give to get a taste of it!
