‘Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu’ which was to commence during Malaysia Day, 16th September was approved by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for permission to use Padang Merbok.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said in a press conference today, “Now, the rally will be allowed to go on. Although personally, I don’t agree to demonstrations but we will allow it as it fulfils the criteria under the law,”

“We will be deploying enough manpower and we are capable of ensuring the safety and security of everyone.”

He added, “We will ensure that it is carried out in a peaceful and disciplined manner.”

“I ask the organisers to prove that this will be a peaceful demonstration and that they will adhere to the law. We will be monitoring the content of their speeches.”

He assured everyone that the police force will deploy enough manpower to contain the rally and ensure everyone’s safety. He also urged people to not believe messages that warned people to stay at home during Malaysia day due to the rally.

“Don’t believe such messages. Those who are spreading these things are purposely trying to create fear in certain groups of people.

“I can assure you that the police will ensure the safety and security of everyone.”

People question the decision made by DBKL, especially after a video from earlier today was circulating on social media showing Head UMNO of Kota Bharu burning two dolls of DAP leaders during a pre-gathering.
