Following the outbreak of the rabies virus in Sarawak, free rabies vaccination campaigns were launched by the Sarawak Veterinary Services Department to ensure all the dogs, cats and other animals are vaccinated.

Although some officers from the veterinary department are Muslim, they still wanted to carry out their veterinary duties to make the state a safer place.

When interviewed by Sinchew, two female Muslim veterinary officers said that everyone should work together in this critical period as Sarawak is on high alert following the earlier rabies outbreak.

The Muslim officers also emphasised that they touch the dogs because it was required by their jobs, and it’s not without a purpose. Seeing how serious the situation is, they didn’t hesitate and just focused on vaccinating the dogs.

They reckoned that Muslim and non-Muslim officers should work in tandem to get through this challenging time, and there shouldn’t be any controversies that arise from their job.

After they are done vaccinating the dogs for the day, they always wash their hands according to Islamic teachings.

Netizens applauded the love and professionalism showed by these Muslim offices towards the animals.

“This is the true definition of professionalism. A million thanks to them for carrying out vaccination and keeping our pets safe!” a netizen commented.

“With every single vaccination, they risk getting bitten by the dogs, especially when dealing with the aggressive ones. I have nothing but respect for them!” another netizen commented.

They are definitely the unsung heroes in Sarawak’s fight against rabies. Hats off to the professionalism displayed by these veterinary officers!
