Along with every General Election, there are always accusations that certain parties and politicians resort to ‘paying’ or ‘bribing’ their supporters or the rakyat in order to secure votes in the election.

In a video that has recently gone viral on social media, a BN officer could be seen handing out RM50 to members of the rakyat who went up to him to shake and kiss his hand before collecting the RM50 note.

A huge line could be seen queuing up for the RM50 notes, whilst some celebrated after receiving the note in hand.

Bribery in plain sight?

The video has gone viral on Twitter and captured the attention and criticisms of Malaysians. Some called out the youths seen in the video for bowing down to as well as accepting bribery.

“Corruption in plain sight.”

The morality of our youth is tarnished. The handing out of money like this has become a culture without shame!” said a user.

Accepting money doesn’t mean that you have to vote for them

On the other hand, some users didn’t see any issue with it as simply accepting money doesn’t necessarily mean that the they necessarily have to vote for BN.

“Those that take the money aren’t that stupid. They’re smart. Shake their hands, promote UMNO, take the RM50 then just vote for PH.”

Another commented, “If I were in the place of them I too would take the money.”

Meanwhile, some pointed out that RM50 is a lot for younger people and that they might need it to survive.

“RM50 could be used to eat, drink, fill petrol, buy cigarettes and more. If you reject it means you are rejecting opportunities.”

On the other hand, some pointed out that the people in the video might have been receiving the RM50 for helping out with the campaign by putting up flags and so forth.
