We have all seen our fair share of accidents taking place at amusement parks. From rides malfunctioning and suspending people in mid-air, to parts of the ride’s machinery falling out, inducing screams from onlookers.

Recently, an accident which took place stirred members of the public to band together and act quickly to save a child.

In a post shared by Perak Press on Facebook, a child had reportedly fallen into the Kinta River while riding an electric toy car at the amusement park at Kinta RiverWalk, Ipoh.

Members of the public were seen forming a human chain on the banks of the river to rescue the child.

It also appeared that a man and a woman who were part of the rescue effort were injured and were tended to by paramedics.

One of them was then seen to be carried away on a stretcher as an ambulance waited nearby.

Operators are to blame

Netizens expressed that the operators should be more responsible and put up a fence to separate the walkway and the river bank.

“It’s dangerous because it’s right next to the river… there should be a fence built around the fence so that no one ends up in the river,” commented one user.

One user stated that this was an accident waiting to happen.

The lack of a fence separating the boardwalk and the river bank combined with the potential of children losing control of the electric car and driving into other cars was a recipe for disaster.

Some users also drew parallels of this electric toy car attraction to the scooter rides in Lumut, Perak.

Comment 5

They stated that the surrounding area poses a danger to visitors who go on the rides as the boardwalk sits by the sea, with inconsistent fencing along the path.

With restrictions lifted and recreational activities returning to business, it is easy to get caught up in the novelty and excitement of everything.

However, while the threat of Covid-19 has diminished, there are still other concerns about the physical safety of public recreational activities that all members of the public should be proactive about.
