The sharing by a foreigner residing in our country on the recent Labour Day caught the attention of Malaysians recently as it made us realise how truly lucky we are to be living in Malaysia.

The man, Greg Larcombe of the United Kingdom, took to his TikTok account @greggetseverywhere to share the differences between the public holidays in our country and his home country while praising how public holidays are done in Malaysia.

The UK man praised Malaysia for making all major religious celebrations a public holiday

At the start of the video, Larcombe said that Labour Day is one of the many public holidays that we have in our country and had him thinking of why there are so few public holidays in the UK.

He added that Malaysia has nearly double the public holidays of the UK and that’s not even taking into account the state-specific holidays that we also have.

Larcombe then asserted,

“The thing that I love the most is that so many of your public holidays revolve around different religions.”

“You know, you’ve obviously got Islamic-based public holidays and Chinese and Indian and Christian. I just think that it’s so wonderful that all of these things are celebrated equally.”

The UK and other countries should learn from Malaysia

He then elaborated that in the UK, there are only 8 public holidays, with only 3 of them revolving around religious celebrations; all of which are Christian.

Larcombe said that the UK doesn’t have any other religious holidays acknowledged as public holidays, stressing that 8 public holidays isn’t enough in the 1st place.

The British TikToker thus opined that the UK and other countries in the world should learn from Malaysia, a nation with one of the most public holidays in the globe, as it’s a good thing.

Larcombe asserted,

“Not only to have the time off, obviously, but to celebrate things together, to celebrate each other’s cultures, traditions and religions.”

“This is something we should be doing more everywhere else in the world, so credit to you, Malaysia, because you got it right.”

This is the beauty of Malaysia

In the comments section, many Malaysians flocked to share their 2 cents on the matter and thanked Larcombe for his generous comments about our country.

One commenter said that our public holidays exemplify the beauty of Malaysia as a multi-cultural nation.

Meanwhile, another commenter, who is also a foreigner, lauded Malaysians for respecting each other and living together harmoniously without the government ‘sprinkling’ division.

Besides that, one Malaysian said that no matter what day it is, public holidays are the best.
