The Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin today announced SOP refinement for the tourism ‘travel bubble’ pioneer programme to Langkawi. Taking to Twitter, Khairy said that tourists who want to visit Langkawi would need an approval letter from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) ONLY if they are travelling by land from states outside of Kedah. The PDRM approval letter are needed so that they can be allowed to pass through roadblocks set up at the state borders.

Furthermore, all tourists that are visiting Langkawi from within the state of Kedah as well as tourists from all around Malaysia taking flights to the island would NOT NEED to apply for an approval letter from PDRM to travel to Langkawi.

Previously, the SOP for the travel bubble programme to Langkawi requires all tourists to get approval letter from PDRM if they’re from outside of the state of Kedah.

With the leniency given for the travel bubble programme, let’s hope that those who are travelling for a vacation to the island of Langkawi still adhere to Covid-19 SOPs that have been set in place by MOH so that the pioneer programme would prove to be a success.

What do you guys think of the new SOP? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
