A factory worker is left shocked and traumatised after he claimed that police officers punched him in the stomach and took RM600 worth of cash from him in an incident that happened last Thursday (3 June).

21-year-old Muhd Izani Mustapha was on his way home from work at 8.15pm when the incident took place at a traffic light at Kilometer 2.6 on Jalan Machang-Tanah Merah, Kelantan.

Based on a report by Harian Metro, he shared that he was supposed to leave his workplace at 6pm but stayed back until 8pm because he had a headache and decided to take a Panadol.

“However, when I was at the ‘flyover’ traffic light in Machang town, my motorcycle was suddenly blocked by a Proton Preve car with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) logo on the front. I was shocked and at that time, there were not many vehicles on the road,”

“As soon as I handed over my identity card, I was asked to hand over the backpack that I brought with me,” he said.

After his wallet and backpack were taken, one of them claimed that he was carrying prohibited items, to which he denied and was suddenly punched in the stomach.

“At the same time, they also asked if I could afford to pay or not. At that time, I was stunned and didn’t know what he meant before RM630 was taken from my wallet that they held,”

“I tried to appeal to them to return the money as it was to pay for my monthly motorcycle insurance, road tax, as well as to pay rent. However, after appealing, they only gave me RM30 before they left heading towards Kota Bharu,” he added.

Izani, who is the youngest of four siblings, then returned home in a state of fear. He admitted that he still wonders why such a thing happened to him.

“I have never carried any prohibited items as alleged by the policeman. Following the incident, I have lodged a police report at the Machang District Police Headquarters (IPD) last Friday (4 June) for further investigation,” he shared.

Machang District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Ganti Jimmy has since confirmed that they have received the report and that an investigation will be carried out under Section 384 of the Penal Code.

“Action will be taken to complete the investigation, including recording statements as well as identifying the suspects involved.”

If this really turns out to be the work of PDRM officers, then it further proves why the authorities need to establish an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Committee (IPCMC).
