The full Movement Control Order (FMCO) kicks off today (1 June) with a new set of standard operating procedures (SOP) implemented, including an increase in roadblocks nationwide.

However, certain roads were seen still heavily congested early this morning at 7.30am.

A video posted on Facebook shows a long stretch of vehicles lining up before a police roadblock on the Federal Highway near the Kota Darul Ehsan Gate, with long stretches of traffic seen on both sides of the highway.

It is reported that PDRM will increase the number of roadblocks throughout Malaysia during the full MCO with a total of 800 roadblocks (SJR) deployed.

According to Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, this includes two types of roadblocks – permanent roadblocks and mobile roadblocks.

Additionally, PDRM will also increase the number of officers that will be stationed on duty to 55,000, bringing the total number of officers to 70,000 including other agencies, reported Astro Awani.

“In each SJR inspection, the police will inspect each vehicle more carefully for the documents submitted and appointments that need to be attended by the public,” he said.

“Therefore, we do not deny that there will be congestion in SJR and also in certain locations, this is inevitable.”

He then urged the public to postpone their movements if they have no urgent need to travel in order to make way for those working in essential services.

He also advised the public to arrange their own movement schedules.

“Give your full cooperation to SJR staff during the inspection,” he said.
