Last night (3 May), a video of a group of men beating a foreigner went viral on social media.

In the 1-minute and 54-second video, the group of men were seen arguing about an issue before the situation escalated to a physical altercation.

Several posts on Facebook claimed that the incident was orchestrated by a group of suspects consisting of the leader and followers of a non-governmental organization (NGO) who were angry with the suspect for allegedly selling pirated shirts from the NGO, as reported by Harian Metro.

According to Harian Metro, police are actively tracking down the group of individuals who had beaten the foreign man after the video went viral on social media.

The incident was reported to have occurred on the sidewalk of a shop premises at No 28, Jalan Alam Jaya 19, Taman Alam Jaya, Batu 9 Cheras, Kajang.

Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said the investigation started as soon as the video recording reached the knowledge of the Vice, Gambling, and Blackmail Division (D7) team of the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD) today.

“Preliminary investigations were carried out after it was believed that the incident took place under the Kajang IPD administration area.

The results of the initial investigation showed a man, believed to be a foreigner, was assaulted by a group of Malay men named Yusuf Azmi, Brother Ali, and some of his followers who have not been identified yet,” he said.

He added that the suspects’ behaviour was an act that disturbed and caused chaos to public order as the altercation reportedly took place in an open public area.

“The results of the examination on this video also found that the group of suspects also violated some standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Conditional Movement Control Order (PKPB) by gathering and not maintaining physical distancing.
