When we were children, our parents always told us not to accept candy or follow strangers, and this has been a life motto for many of us until now.

However, some adults offer candy to kids as an act of kindness, and this has backfired on this one Singaporean in Batam, where he was mobbed by locals who misunderstood his kind act as a kidnapping attempt.

This incident occurred on April 29 when the Singaporean man was at a convenience store near a residential area.

He was purchasing some things, and he gave candy to a child playing nearby.

Not long after, he was accused of trying to kidnap the child and the crowd grew bigger and bigger.

Because he could not speak Bahasa Indonesia, he was unable to defend himself, to the point that the police had to intervene.

The local police personnel brought the Singaporean to the police station, and even though there was a language barrier, they concluded that the Singaporean man was innocent and wasn’t attempting to kidnap the child.

According to the Kendari Immigration Head interviewed by iNews, he said that the man was probably mobbed by the locals as his actions were different from what is considered normal to them.

It is also said that the man was deported to protect him.

When visiting places with different customs, it is always best to observe before taking action.
