Deals and savings are life but would you ever consider changing your name just for a 2-day promo?

Well, 150 people in Taiwan actually did that. A chain sushi restaurant in Taiwan had a promotion where they specified that people with “鲑鱼” (salmon) in their names (on their identity card) will be entitled to a free all-you-can-eat buffet with five friends.

The Taiwanese government allows people to change their names officially three times. It only costs 80 New Taiwan Dollars (RM11.60) for the process. According to Taipei Times, a student changed her name to “Salmon Rice Bowl” and went to have a nice meal with her friends and planned to change her name back the day after.

Others have said in an online forum that they managed to eat about 13,000 NTD (RM1,881) worth of salmon and they wouldn’t want to eat salmon again anytime soon. During this time frame, a person broke the record for the longest name in Taiwan with 36 characters (in Mandarin). They legally changed their name to (translated):

“Chen loves Taiwan, abalone, tuna, salmon, snow crab, sea urchin, scallop, lobster and beef, Mayfull, Palais de Chine, Regent, Hilton, Caesar Park, Hotel Royal.”

However, another one of these people were quite unfortunate as they didn’t know that their parents had already changed their name twice when they were younger.

This name-changing has been condemned by a Taiwanese official who said that it is a “waste of time and creates unnecessary paperwork”, reported The Straits Times.
