The course will also be teaching parenting skills to Malaysian newlyweds.

The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is currently on the verge of introducing a specific course for married couples in a move to strengthen family institutions in the country. As reported by national news agency Bernama, its minister, Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun said that previously, only a pre-marriage course has been a requirement for potential brides and grooms amongst Muslims to get married.

She then suggested that there should be a course after marriage in order to seriously strengthen the marriage, especially by teaching parenting skills to them. The Titiwangsa Member of Parliament said,

“After the marriage, there is no more course required. Hence, the ministry takes the issue of strengthening the family institution seriously, whereby the post-marriage course will include parenting skills,”

Rina Harun then said that her ministry is now considering whether to make the post-marriage courses compulsory for all races in the country. She was quoted by reporters regarding this new married couples course during the opening ceremony of the Women’s Empowerment Programme yesterday (6 March 2021) held in conjunction with International Women’s Day at Tanjung Pelepas Port, Gelang Patah.
