The National Security Council (MKN) has allowed the Thaipusam chariot procession from the Jalan Bandar temple to Batu Caves on 27 January, according to Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Tan Sri Annuar Musa said in his Twitter post yesterday (23 January 2021) that the National Security Council has given a nod for the Thaipusam chariot procession to proceed on 27 January and return on 29 January.

“The conditions are that the chariot cannot make any stops, not more than 10 people allowed to accompany the procession and no music is allowed,” he said.

He also added that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will be monitoring to ensure SOPs compliance.

Thaipusam is celebrated by the Tamil Hindu community on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai, as well as among Malayalis and it is vernacularly called Thaipooyam. Thaipusam falls on 28 January on a Thursday this year.
