27yo Father Who Stabbed 18-Month-Old Daughter With Bread Knife Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison

A few days ago, World of Buzz reported about an 18-month-old baby girl who was severely injured after being stabbed in the stomach by her father in Puchong Permai on 12 December.

The 27-year-old car accessory shop worker, who stabbed his child with a bread knife was brought to court today, 17 December.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Sessions Court.

According to Harian Metro, the sentence was handed down by Judge Mohammed Mokhzani Mokhtar after the accused, Muhammad Safwan Shafie, 27, pleaded guilty to the charge.

When shown a picture of his baby daughter by the court for identification purposes, the accused was seen crying.

Subang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abd Khalid Othman said that the suspect reportedly went on a rampage and stabbed his daughter. For the offence, the accused was charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment for up to 20 years if convicted.

The prosecution of the case was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Shanur Farrahin Shapri while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
