In yesterday’s live press conference by MOH, Health Director-General, Dr Noor Hisham said that the government will reconsider their decision to allow the relaxation of regulations if the number of Covid-19 cases in the country show an increasing upward trend.

“(Right now), we estimate the Covid-19 cases in the country to be around 845 to 1,700 cases daily,” said Dr Noor Hisham adding that this was an estimation of cases in the country for the next two weeks.

He acknowledged that while the government has allowed many regulations to be relaxed, the government may have to look at adopting other strategies if the Covid-19 cases continue to rise.

“We will observe if there is no upward trend in rising cases. If the trend of cases is lower than what is expected, we can then focus on reviving the economy but if the cases are increasing, we have to think about other strategies to combat the virus.”

The Health DG also said that citizens who plan on interdistrict and interstate traveling must be aware of not exposing themselves to the virus. “Even though there’s been a lot of flexibility in the relaxation of rules, what we want to focus on is the exposure of citizens to those who are infected. We can move around but we should avoid coming into contact with positive cases.”
