Yesterday, an Instagram user, @vimall22, took to his page to share a story that would touch the hearts of many.

In his post, he shared the story about his experience with a Foodpanda delivery guy.

“Ordered food from @foodpandamy and received the call from the ‘rider’. Except that it wasn’t a rider, but a WALKER,” he said in his post.

Vimall expressed how overwhelmed he felt when he saw the delivery guy getting a drink from the vending machine and said that he was thirsty. Of course, with this Malaysian heat – no doubt!

World of Buzz managed to get in touch with the Foodpanda delivery guy and he explained more about his job to us.

Raveen Pathmanathan, 38, has been working as a food delivery guy for over 3 months now as a walker.

“It is my duty to finish the job that I was assigned to. I am a walker,” he tells us.

“Walkers can choose to use a bicycle or even a scooter too. But, I don’t have the cash to get a bicycle,” he added on.

Raveen took up this job after he got retrenched from his previous job.

“I was working as a receptionist at a 5-star hotel. Unfortunately, I was retrenched. So, I had to do something to survive during the pandemic. I then decided to try Foodpanda when a friend of mine recommended,” he said.

When asked about the number of hours he works as a delivery guy, he said “7 to 8 hours from Monday to Friday. Sometimes on Saturdays too.”

Raveen added on to say that the furthest he has ever walked so far has been 5km.

“I try my best to take shortcuts. Along small roads, alleys or staircases. If I know I’m going to be late, I’ll call the customer and tell him/her that I’m on my way,” he said.

When asked whether this job is going well for him, he said “It’s nice. I don’t have to think about assigning rooms or checking in guests or dealing with guest complaints.”

“Foodpanda has a target that we need to make in order to receive an extra allowance. So, everyone will try their best to reach the most orders in a day. However, for me, it is about receiving and sending the delivery on time,” he said.

We also asked him if he would ever consider going back to work at any other hotels. He said “No. Had enough of all that drama.”

“I have been trying to apply for a job as part of the customer service in Foodpanda, talking and handling customers orders over the phone. But, I’m yet to get a reply from the office,” he added on.

Kudos to him for finding alternative ways to work during these hard times.
