Following the recent shooting incident at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), many shared their disappointment over the fact that the shooting suspect managed to escape from the airport despite it being a place with a lot of security and police personnel.

The police later shared that they were boosting the airport’s security by adding more officers there.

Now, people were once again wondering what the authorities are doing as it was reported that police personnel at KLIA were provided with 4 segways worth RM55,000 (this means that each unit costs RM13,750), by the Selangor state government, as a method to ‘enhance security measures’. Additional units will also be provided should they need it.

According to a report by BFM News, the segways apparently have a maximum speed of 30km/h and can be operated for at least 12 hours if they’re fully charged.

Selangor state MB Amirudin Shari shared that the segways at the airport are important due to high traffic in the area with over 60 million tourist arrivals each year.

Malaysians, on the other hand, don’t believe that the segways are going to help enhance security, especially considering officers at KLIA have already had segways for years.

They also compared then made comparisons to the popular movie character, Paul Blart (you know, from Paul Blart: Mall Cop).

“Things have become like Paul Blart: Mall Cop.”

Others also pointed out their belief that the purchase of the segways for the police personnel at KLIA will only benefit 1 party, which is the segway seller.

Do you think having more segways at our airports will enhance its security? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
