While the King of Fruits has always been known as a local favourite, durians are also a highly demanded fruit abroad. Luckily for durian business owners, DHL’s Express Malaysia’s Durian Express initiative will ease the export of the fruit abroad, particularly to Singapore and Hong Kong.

With the recent international spike in demand for durians, DHL said that it aims to help business owners by guaranteeing next-day delivery in less than 24 hours.

“The service also demonstrates our longstanding commitment to the Malaysian small and medium enterprise community, as we continue to help them look beyond our shores and realise their growth potential,” said Julian Neo, Managing director of DHL Express Malaysia in a statement recorded by BERNAMA.

Business owners have the flexibility of making shipments to their overseas warehouses, greengrocers and supermarkets, or residential and office addresses with Durian Express. Bulk orders can also be made for large-volume orders that will give businesses the option of individual dispatch to separate locations.

Despite the large number of durians being harvested locally, only 6.8 per cent is reportedly destined for export. But with DHL’s new service, local durian business owners can start exporting the large global appetite for the favoured fruit, especially since there are more than 100 varieties of durian found here.

One such variety is the D197, also known as, Mao Shan Wang. With its creamy bittersweet flesh, these durians which usually go for the local retail price of RM50-70 can be retailed for up to a whopping RM200 in Hong Kong. In fact, it is the high demand for these fruits that make it a key focus of exports for the Malaysian government.
