Despite the pandemic that’s happening around us, we’d expect humans to have more compassion towards our surroundings but is that the case?

Forget humans, we’re greeted with the news of cruel animal abuse all the time and somehow it doesn’t seem to be reducing. This is another case where humans don’t appreciate the environment that was given to us and is somehow calm with the destruction we’re causing.

Facebook group Thailand Fishing shared a post saying that the pregnant Arapaima in their care died on 25 July after careless people threw plastic garbage continuously into her habitat.

The arapaima, ryan, was found swimming in a plastic sack that made her death agonizing.

“What probably costs lives of sea, fish, dolphins, turtles, every day happened today on our doorstep.”

Ryan was hand-fed every day, was seven years old and was 188cm long and over 70kg. She was given a proper burial by her owners who made sure to remove the plastic sack that caused her death.

We can post all day about how messed-up 2020 is but how much of it is actually beyond our control? On a daily basis, we see the environment not being treated properly but we just choose to ignore it. Moving forward, no matter how small, let’s start showing some compassion towards the environment.
