Besides the poverty that already exists in the world, the hit of Covid-19 made the scenario worse. With attempts to eliminate the disease, many people have been put out of jobs causing them to not have enough money to attain basic needs.

One of those people is this man from Medan, Indonesia. According to a write up by Merdeka.com, this man was whacked by villagers until he was all bloody and bruised, after he was caught stealing a 5kg sack of rice from a stall.

When investigated, it was stated that he did so on the basis of being so hungry, upon losing his only source of income since Covid-19. The occurrence happened last Saturday and was immediately reported to the police.

Soon after that, an organisation was instructed to go to his home to verify his story. Upon reaching and looking at his living conditions, they found the 40-year-old’s story to be true. He appeared to live alone in a house where the walls were made out of buluh.

The police also found out that he was living alone because his wife and three children went to stay with his in-laws. Before Covid-19, he worked as someone that crafted, created and built stuff for people.

When he lost his job, he did receive help from others. But as man of the house, he wanted to still provide for his family, despite them not being there. So he sent it to his wife and children, for their daily needs.

When the police understood his whole situation, they immediately donated rice, eggs and money to him, with the hopes that he would never need to steal out of hunger ever again.
