Italy is now the country that has the highest number of Covid-19 cases besides China, with a total of 9,172 confirmed cases, 463 reported deaths and 724 recovered cases at the time of writing.

According to Al-Jazeera, Italy recorded its highest jump in deaths yesterday (9th March) with a record of 133 deaths within 24 hours. However, 97 more deaths have been added to the number, bringing the total to 463.

Now, Italy’s Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte has announced that the entire country has been put under a lockdown. According to CNN, the lockdown was first imposed on northern regions on Sunday, but because the entire nation have become red zones, a total lockdown is needed.

This means that all public events will be banned, cinemas, theatres, gyms, discos and pubs will be closed, and funerals, weddings and sporting events will be cancelled. All schools and universities will remain closed until 3rd April 2020, reported The Guardian.
