Countless reports were broadcasted and published to highlight the severity and devastation of our pollution problem, which have pushed many across the globe to try and assist us with cleaning efforts, including 25-year-old Dutch inventor, Boyan Slat, whose Interceptor 002 cleaned up the Klang river.

But it looks like, the world’s assistance won’t help heal the damage if Malaysians continue to litter and pollute instead of helping keep our environment clean.

Mariam Abdul Rashid took to her Facebook page to showcase a roadside vendor who decided to pour out her leftover pre-made drink into the already trash-ridden drain behind her stall.

Posted by Mariam Abdul Rashid on Friday, February 21, 2020

She wrote, “This is our society’s attitude that needs to change. The casual, ‘take-it-easy’ attitude, prioritising one’s self without thinking of the effects on the environment and community around them. It’s about time to lay down the law for roadside vendors who throw rubbish everywhere without caring for the cleanliness of their grounds. Punish or take action on those who litter everywhere.”

The drain that the lady is pouring the drink into is already ridiculously full of rubbish, probably thrown by customers of her stall or herself.

There are also customers and other vendors nearby who seem unfazed by her actions, as though it was included in their day-to-day routine.

Though, some netizens are defending the vendor, reasoning that liquids are meant to be thrown into the drain.

This comment goes, “Liquids are meant to be thrown into the drain. You guys are so stupid. No one knows who threw the trash. In this picture, she’s only pouring out the liquids. Don’t simply defame her. You guys are behaving like the antichrist.”

This comment says, “It’s the trash. The liquids are fine, it’s not chemicals.”

Though, when customers see the vendor treating her own stall site with such disrespect, it opens up the possibility for them to throw their plastic packaging and drink cups everywhere as well. If the vendor were to set up a proper dustbin and disposal bin and use it religiously, customers will see her as an example and follow suit.

Mariam’s posting has since garnered over 1,100 shares.

What do you guys think? Is it okay or wrong for the vendor to pour out her leftover drinks into the drain?
