Amidst the widespread panic of the Wuhan epidemic, clinics and pharmacies all over the world have reported shortages of face masks as citizens desperately stock up on any virus protection gear they can get their hands on. While some kind souls have shown their generosity by donating the masks that they have, not everybody welcomes these donations with open arms.

Recently, three boxes of face masks that were donated to the Chinese Consulate in Ayer Rajah, Penang were detonated in front of the bungalow when paranoid staff suspected that the boxes hid explosives.

According to FMT, the consulate staff grew suspicious when a group of seven people appeared outside the consulate bungalow, with two of them standing and holding up banners in support of the suffering citizens in Wuhan and Hubei at 3pm yesterday (2nd February).

The group allegedly gave an impassioned speech in support of China before departing from the premises, leaving the boxes in front of bungalow. The consulate immediately proceeded to alert the fire department of their “unexpected parcel”.

Not long after that, a police bomb squad arrived to blow up the boxes of donated face masks, only to discover that they weren’t actually filled with bombs.

Soffian Santong, the Northeast district police chief then released a statement announcing that the group of seven had merely showed up to show their solidarity with the Chinese who are taking the hardest hit from the 2019 Wuhan virus outbreak.

“They stood outside the consulate and chanted support slogans for China and left after 30 minutes.”

We don’t know whether to laugh or cry at this. What do you guys think?
