The new ruling specifies that, “in addition to psychometric and attitude tests, each candidate must pass religious tests-both for Muslims and online (moral) tests for non-Muslims during interview sessions before being accepted for training”, said Bukit Aman Management Department director, Datuk Abd Rahim Jaafar to the Star.

With the new force expected to recruit around “6,000 rank and file personnel and about 500 officers”, the director said that the test needs be to be made mandatory to ensure all police officers and personnel would have high values of integrity.

“A policeman’s job is to protect the public’s safety. But how can he be concerned if he (the police) has issues?” said the director to reporters yesterday (10th Dec) at the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara award presentation ceremony.

The director went on to say that heavy emphasis will be placed on religious and moral values to address the issue of misconduct among PDRM officers.

“This is because we find that some of the policeman arrested in connection with drugs actually had previous involvement before joining the service. This is what we are trying to avoid as it gives a bad image and reputation to the PDRM.”

As of right now, PDRM is actively seeking cooperation from the universities to use technologies that could detect candidates who had previous drug problems.
