Moving into a new place is so much more than just transferring your belongings from one place to another. There’s a lot that needs to be considered and it can also be an extremely stressful time. Well, if ever you’re planning to move soon or in the future, make sure you know what you need to take note of. To help ease your moving just a little bit, here’s a simple checklist of things to note when moving that most would overlook:

1. If you’re renting, make sure the landlord or tenant before you has paid off all the bills

You don’t want to move into a beautiful new home and end up receiving hundreds or thousands of Ringgit worth of unpaid bills in your first month, do you? It has happened before!

There are instances where tenants leave the home without first paying off their bills and landlords would sneakily and quietly let you (the new tenant) settle the bills for them. So before agreeing to move in, make sure you ask to see the latest electricity and water bills to ensure there are no outstanding amounts listed.

2. Check if water or power cuts happen often in your area

Yes, water cuts can happen outside of dry seasons and power cuts can happen even without a lightning strike. For example, housing areas in OUG and Seksyen 17 have a tendency of experiencing water cuts without any prior warning. A lot of this is due to leaky or burst pipes. So before you move into a brand new location, be sure to do your research! You can easily do this by finding Facebook groups or forums.

3. Remember to change your delivery, billing and/or shipping address

This is especially important for those of you who have items or bills delivered to your current home on a regular basis. Your newspaper subscription or banking and insurance-related letters, for example. Some of these documents contain private and confidential information so make sure you cancel the subscription or contact the necessary parties to change the address.

4. Take note of public transportation around your area

Even if you’re someone who drives yourself everywhere, having a bus stop or LRT located just walking-distance away can be a lifesaver. You might experience car trouble or need to head for a meeting situated in the city centre during peak hours; during times like these, public transport is a MUST.

What’s more, if you’re buying the house, having public transport close by would make it much easier to rent out your home should you decide to rent it out in the future.

5. Depending on the area or type of house you’re going to live in, your WiFi connection can either be really bad or really good

Every home requires fast internet nowadays. If not, how to Netflix and chill wor?

Well, depending on whether you’re going to live in a landed home or high-rise, the speed of your internet can be affected greatly. So remember to check with your internet provider if your area is covered and if they cover high-rise (IF you’re living in a condo).

Whar’s more, make sure you do your research on which type of internet would work for your new place: Fibre internet or Wireless Broadband?

Some of the benefits that come with Fibre Internet include faster connection and better quota restrictions while Wireless Broadband offers better mobility as you can move the modem anywhere in your home and it comes with shorter contracts.

However, with that said, it really does depend on what you’re using your internet connection for and where you plan to live. Well, if you happen to be looking for high speed internet for your current or future home, you could give Celcom Home Fibre or Celcom Home Wireless Broadband a try!

What’s more, thanks to the 90 Days of Awesomeness by Celcom Home campaign, the rates are also insane as the Home Fibre plan is priced as low as RM80/month while the Wireless one starts from RM70/month only!

That’s an incredibly lucrative plan, especially for unlimited high-speed home internet! Celcom is known for having one of the best 4G LTE networks in and around Malaysia after all.
