9 Cool Dessert Shops To Beat The Heatwave

Softsrve Ice Cream At Damansara Uptown 002

Follow us on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for the latest stories and updates daily.

It’s that time of the year when everything goes up, including the temperature and GST (but we’ll save that for another day). What’s really bothering us right now is the sweltering heat that make roasting eggs on a pavement possible. We’d do anything to stay indoors, and the only reasons we would leave are for these six cold desserts that make us a little sweeter, too. Dive in, boys and girls!

1. Softsrv

The next best thing after Milkcow is this new soft serve outlet churning out creamy, cooling and comforting dairy treats. The original Cereal Milk is a blend of softserve and corn flakes – all the more reasons to have ice cream for breakfast too, yeah? The milky confection is rich and full-bodied, and is served with a bigger base cup concealing dry ice that creates a foggy cloud similar to liquid nitrogen (#InstaReady). Go crazy with toppings like potato chips, Garrett popcorn, cotton candy, and NZ honeycomb!

Location: 31, Jalan SS21/1A, Damansara Uptown, PJ

2. Bingsu Café

There’s no denying that local foodsters are warmly fast to Korean desserts and cafés. So popular is the specialty bingsu dessert, a bowl of shaved ice dessert sweetened with different flavours (somewhat like our ais kacang), that you can find more than a handful of Korean cafés, the latest outlet being the newly opened Bingsu Café. Their bingsus come with toppings such as peanuts, soy powder, rice cakes, fruit, red beans and even ice-cream in durian and mango flavours! A real treat to the taste buds.

Location: No, 28 Jalan SS21/35, Damansara Uptown, PJ

3. The Original Milkshake Co

Not sure about you, but I remember growing up ordering milkshakes whenever they were on the menu. If anything, milkshakes are a real comfort drink that still drives adults wild! Should your idea of an ice cold thirst-quencher is a creamy milkshake, get your fill at this outlet that serves yummy shakes topped with desserts like cake and brownie chunks, marshmallow, caramel popcorn and pretzels. Milkshakes come in flavours of Root Beer, salted caramel, snickers, fruits or peanut butter and Oreos.

Location: 4-63, Level 4, Quill City Mall, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Tel: 03-6120-2717

4. Fat Spoon

There will always be a special place in our hearts for street snacks, like cempedak and pisang goreng. Bless the founders of Fat Spoon, who adopted the heavenly fruit into their menu AND pairing it with vanilla ice cream! This divine union consists of thick and sweet cempedak pulp stuffed into spring rolls and served with a huge serving of vanilla ice cream. We’ll have another round please.

Location: 73, Jalan SS21/1A Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

5. Whimsical Café at Publika

We now move on to another continent’s specialty dessert –Italy’s gelato. Although gelato has been widely available through franchise ice-cream joints, there’s no beating authentic and artisan ones like those served at Whimsical Gelateria & Caffe by Cielo Dolci. Even their storage of gelato in Pozzetti tubs is in accordance to the authentic Italian method of keeping the contents insulated for consistency and smoothness. Flavours range from basil (as a side to salad), beef bacon (alongside your Big Breakfast), and tamer flavours like coconut and gula Melaka, Sangria and 70% dark chocolate.

Location: D2-G3-05, Solaris Dutamas, 1 Jalan Dutamas 1, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

6. Juicyfy Juice Bar

There’s also something for the health nut out there. Flush away body heat internally with refreshing, healthy cold-pressed juices to fill your 5-a-day veg and fruit ratio at this Juice joint. Pick your favourite ingredient combinations, or if you’re feeling fancy, select a juice with their namesake benefits like Immunify, Digestify, Slimify, Detoxify, Vitalify, and so on. If you feel like a treat, try their buttermilk waffles topped with Happyfy gelato made from natural ingredients.

Location: 13, SS21/1A, Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

 7. Johnny Rockets

Shakes

You are missing in life if you never tried this milkshake before. Go to a Johnny Rockets outlet and order one now, because i swear it’s the best shake your tongue have ever tasted. It’s super creamy texture almost makes it feel like you are slurping up icecream and I would say it’s rather steep price of RM15 is worth its money.

Location: The Curve, Pavilion, Avenue K, Sunway Pyramid, IOI City Mall Putrajaya, KLIA2

8. Moo Cow Frozen Yogurt

Moocow

A personal favourite, this froyo is heaven after every taste, complemented with its icy yet creamy texture that’s to die for. Moo Cow has seasonal flavours, which mean you’ll have to check back once in awhile to find out what’s new that’s in store. We highly recommend the original! Don’t forget to get your Moo Cow on the 15th of every month with it’s buy 1 free 1 promo.

Location: Telawi Bangsar, Publika, Suria KLCC and more.

9. McDonalds

Mcd

If you’re broke, McD is the place to go. McDonalds is love, McDonalds is life. McD does not discriminate, it does not care if you’re broke, lonely or just plain cheap, it’ll be there for you 24/7. No, seriously, it’s open 24/7. It’ll provide you service for only RM1.05, and you will able to lick to your heart’s content.
